Hand oils can make for poor electrical contact and dirt buildup on the jack contacts over time.ĭON'T spray electronics cleaners or WD-40 in the jack - some of this stuff has solvents that can destroy certain plastics. The other thing is to frequently wipe off your headphone plug before you insert it in the jack. The canned air is also good for drying out the jack after alcoholing it. You might try these techniques several times. You might try sucking on the input jack, or blowing some compressed air from a can in there (available at a computer store). Anyway, the following cleaning worked for me when a reset didn't:ĭip your headphone's plug into some rubbing alcohol and insert and remove it from the jack several times.

The headphones may be sensed electronically in the Ipod, but this still requires solid electric contact between the jack and the headphone plug.

This is the opposite problem - the speaker stays on when you plug in headphones. These type of contacts get dirty or corroded over time, and can act intermittently or fail.įrankly, I'm not sure if this device uses this type of jack - usually the symptom is that the internal speaker won't come back on when you unplug the phones from this type of jack, because the contacts aren't making clean contact. Plug in your headphones, and those contacts open, disabling the internal speaker. There are metal contacts inside that normally touch each other, completing the connection that makes the internal speaker play. In many devices, the input jack where you plug in your headphones is called a switching jack. I didn't have to open the Ipod to do what I did - it's a non-invasive procedure, won't hurt anything. For me, the reset didn't work, but cleaning the jack solved the problem. What I want to ask is, 1.) Is there anyway of turning the internal speakers off? 2.) How can I fix the earphone jack without taking it apart? 3.) Is there any way of turning down the earphone volume with this this problem? I would really like some answers. I've also tried several different pairs of headphones. I've already tried the whole rebooting thing with holding down the menu and center button, and I've also tried unplugging and reconnecting the earphones, it doesn't help me whatsoever.

When I turn the volume all the way down to zero, the music still comes out the earphones at full blast and not the speakers but when I turn up the volume, the music plays out the earphones and the speakers. When I plug in earphones, the sound plays through both the speakers and the earphones. Plug in headphones -> Music from headphones (4. Plug in headphones -> Music still from speakers Workaround 1: (What i do everytime i need headphones.) 1. Start Musicbee and play music -> Music from speakers 3. It's the one with the camera in the back. Start Laptop without headphones plugged in 2. I've been experiencing the same problem with my iPod. Okay, none of these answers are helping me at all.
